Sample Solar Street Lighting Report

EVIEKO – Sample Solar Street Lighting Report

Sample project – illustrative

This is an example of the lighting report EVIEKO prepares in its free lighting design service. The site below is fictional and was calculated with EVIEKO's photometric planner engine (point-by-point calculation from the luminaire's IES photometric data). Your report is calculated for your own site, target values and fixtures.

Prepared by EVIEKO GROUP, Melbourne · info@evieko.com · Pre-design guide – final design confirmed in EVIEKO's lighting design and quotation.

1. Site inputs

Project Sample project – two-lane access road (illustrative)
Area type Road / street, straight section
Length 200 m
Carriageway width 7.0 m (two lanes)
Footpaths 1.5 m each side
Pole arrangement Single side (near kerb)
Mounting height 6 m
Head overhang into road 0.5 m
Lighting target (road) Average ≥ 15 lx, uniformity U0 (Emin/Eavg) ≥ 0.30
Maintenance factor 0.8

2. Selected luminaire

Model EVIEKO Bifacial Solar Street Light 40 W – LiFePO4 (EV-SL-108) · product page
LED power 40 W
Luminous flux used in calculation 6,824 lm (planning value)
Light distribution From the luminaire family's IES photometric file (type C), street-side oriented
Battery 288 Wh LiFePO4 (integrated)
Solar panel 60 W bifacial (integrated)

3. Calculated layout and results

Widest spacing that meets both targets 24.0 m (≈ 4.0 × mounting height)
Number of lights for 200 m 10 (single side)
Total LED load 10 × 40 W = 400 W
Road – average illuminance Eavg 15.1 lx · target ≥ 15 lx · Meets target
Road – minimum illuminance Emin 5.8 lx
Road – maximum illuminance Emax 28.8 lx
Road – overall uniformity U0 (Emin/Eavg) 0.39 · target ≥ 0.30 · Meets target
Road – Emin/Emax 0.20
Footpaths – average / minimum 12.2 lx / 3.4 lx (no footpath target set – shown for information)

Results are for the calculation field between two poles at the maximum spacing of 24.0 m (worst case). On site, 10 poles set out evenly over 200 m are at 22.2 m centres, which gives slightly higher levels: Eavg 16.3 lx, Emin 6.3 lx, U0 0.39.

4. Road simulated diagram (plan view)

False-colour isolux plan of two pole spacings. White circles: poles on the near kerb; amber marks: luminaire heads (0.5 m overhang). Dashed line: lane centre line. Each band shows the horizontal illuminance on the ground.

Calculation grid – horizontal illuminance (lx) between two poles

0.5 31.1 24.2 19.7 17.3 14.8 17.3 19.7 24.2 31.1

x = distance from the first pole along the road; y = distance across the road from the near kerb (0 m) to the far kerb (7 m).

5. Example calculation – rule of thumb vs calculated layout

Same site and the same target (15 lx average, U0 0.30). Calculated with the same engine.

Rule of thumb
spacing = 3 × pole height, larger 60 W light
Stretched spacing
40 W light at 40 m
EVIEKO calculated layout
40 W light at 24.0 m
Lights for 200 m 13 6 10
Spacing 18.0 m 40.0 m 24.0 m
Average Eavg 30.2 lx 9.1 lx 15.1 lx
Minimum Emin (darkest point) 11.6 lx 2.5 lx 5.8 lx
Uniformity U0 0.38 0.28 0.39
Total LED load 780 W 240 W 400 W
Result Meets target but about 2× over-lit Fails average and uniformity Meets both targets

In this example the calculated layout uses 3 fewer poles (23% fewer) and 49% less installed LED power than the rule-of-thumb layout, while still meeting the target. Savings depend on each site – this is one illustrative calculation, not a guaranteed figure.

6. Assumptions

  • Point-by-point calculation of horizontal illuminance on the road surface from the luminaire family's IES (type C) photometric data, scaled to the luminous flux shown above, multiplied by the maintenance factor 0.8.
  • Flat, straight road; no obstructions, trees or reflections from surroundings; all lights operating at full output.
  • The luminous flux of this model is a planning value based on its rated power; the full design uses the flux stated on the current datasheet and photometric test report.
  • Battery autonomy (nights of back-up) and solar panel sizing depend on the site's location, sunlight hours and the operating/dimming profile; they are calculated in the full design and are not part of this illustrative example.
  • Target values are illustrative. For a real project, use the lighting category or values set by your council, authority or engineer (for example from AS/NZS 1158 or EN 13201).
Disclaimer: Pre-design guide; final design confirmed in EVIEKO's lighting design and quotation. This sample does not represent a real project, and it is not a compliance certificate. Final compliance sign-off remains with the project engineer or approving authority.
